Burhanuddin Rabbani ASSASSINATED

A suicide bomber apparently hiding explosives in his turban killed Burhanuddin Rabbani in his home in Kabul. The former Afghan leader was intalks with taliban for peace efforts.

Former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani was killed by a suicide bomber on Tuesday in his home in the capital in high profile target cleaning.



The bomber entered Rabbani's home in near Kabul  on the pretext of visiting him, said Gen. Mohammed Zaher, the head of criminal investigation for the Kabul police.

the blast injured at least one other member of the High Peace Council, as the reconciliation body was known.
Four of Rabbani's bodyguards were also killed, but that could not be immediately confirmed.
Rabbani served as Afghan president in the early-to-mid 1990s, and was the head of government at the time of the Taliban takeover.

He was a Tajik.and Talibans are Pastoons so ethnic tensions are eminent.

President Hamid Karzai's office said the Afghan leader was cutting short a visit to the U.N. General Assembly to return home.
